The Washington Post article shared my MJ Rosenberg today skims lightly over the key word: “Birthright.” So, young Jews from throughout the world have a right, by birth (technically and scripturally, born by a Jewish mother, but let’s be modern) to see, learn about and enjoy a guided visit to Israel, otherwise known, in other corners, as Palestine. But my Arab friend from California whose mother was born in Palestine cannot go to visit his family’s ancestral home, where his grandparents grew orchards of olives and figs for centuries before 1948. And as for the “187 percent chance” that these Birthright people will meet their future husband or wife on a Birthright Trip, please advise them that won’t be allowed to get married in Israel unless they are Orthodox Jews. It’s the rule. So they’ll have to get back on that grand cruise ship and sail for Cyprus. Incidentally, I am an American Jew, born of a Jewish mother but, raised as a Reform Jew, I am not a Jew by the lights of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, even though, as a “Jew,” I could apply for citizenship tomorrow. I never would. And as long as we’re defining what “Jew” means, I’ll offer my take: A Jew is a person is someone who does right by their neighbor. If that sounds Christian, well, where do you think they got it? Jesus wasn’t born an atheist.

So according to WAPO 42 percent of younger Jews don't like Israel's war and slaughter of Palestinians. So OBVIOUSLY some of the people making "Jews feel uncomfortable on campuses" are other Jews. This whole script where Jewish pro Israel students complain they can't even speak out, would have one believe that other students are physical threatening them when its mainly that their views are maybe not too popular outside their own bubble...

Regarding the subheadline, I'm not sure how much power parents/guardians have to stop adult children from going on a fully funded trip

Jewish parents! Letting their kids go to a war zone. No way. They supported their going because their Israelmania tops their usual worrying. I know those people. I am one, except for the Israel mania.
