I am so happy, bordering ecstatic, that I hate to bring up the ugly subject of antisemitism. Or maybe “antisemitism” because what the Jewish organizations and some Democratic party hacks are calling antisemitism ain’t it.
The reason so many progressives, pro-Palestine folks, and others worked to torpedo Shapiro’s candidacy had nothing to do with his religion or ethnicity. It was all about his lifelong pro-Israel AIPAC zealotry. Even if (which I doubt) Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and the other Democratic contenders for VP share Shapiro’s mainstream pro-Israel inclinations, they are far from lifelong Zionists. They aren’t Zionists at all; just pro-Israel of the J Street variety. Nothing like Shapiro.
And that is why we wanted him nowhere near the White House.
More proof that the anti-Shapiro furor had nothing to do with his Jewish background is that pretty much all of the anti-Shapiro crowd support and love Bernie Sanders.
Now the AIPAC and Democratic party hack group dismisses Sanders as a real Jew because he vehemently opposes the occupation and has never taken orders from AIPAC.
But Bernie is, was, and always will be a proud Jew. As for Israel, Sanders is a better Jew than Shapiro because Sanders favors policies that will preserve it while Shapiro supports policies that have put it in danger of extinction.
Bottom line. I’m glad Shapiro is out of the running.
If I had to bet on who the first Jewish president would be, I’d bet on Jon Osoff of Georgia who, like most Jews of his generation (37), is far closer to the Bernie model than the old Shapiro one. Of course, I don’t care if there ever is a Jewish president or a Mormon or a Muslim or whatever.
I’m sick and tired of any form of religion in politics. And that includes the phrase “my faith….”
BTW, I love Tim Walz. Back in the day I had several conversations with him. What a smart, good, and unpretentious guy. I could not be more excited about the Harris-Walz ticket.
